Artist’s Statement:
I paint to discover and celebrate the hidden mechanics of the natural world. Through training and experimentation, I’ve developed a style of semi-abstract landscape painting that I use to analyse and emphasize different structures and systems within the land. Selection of subject is key, I look for rhythm and repetition, elements that speak to my intuition like windows revealing deeper realities. Examples of what I’ve painted include significant trees rendered with the emphasis of a royal portrait, sun bleached rock gardens encased by contrasting wild growth, or a distant tree line splitting a sea and sky of wild color. I emphasize the significance of the subject by using a portrait orientation or by utilizing its elements to embark into relevant abstractions. I want to explore and portray the truth within these subjects, not just their initial beauty.
