On Wednesday, September 25th the Senior Action Network will host its’ 8th Annual Living Well, Living Long conference.  The event will again be held at the Westminster Presbyterian Church, 1925 Boulevard Rd. SE in Olympia, from 8:30 am – 3:30 pm (breakfast & lunch provided).

This year’s theme offers a wealth of information related to “Wellness in Our Community”, bringing together speakers and panel discussions to provide tools for more powerful engagement within our community.  Dr. Kevin Haughton, Medical Director for Physicians of SW Washington, is the event’s Keynote Speaker this year.  Dr. Haughton will present “Communication for Optimal Wellness”, which will offer insights on how to more effectively enter into a dialog with your physician(s) in order to receive the maximum benefit out of each doctor’s visit.

Two other speakers planned for the day are Dr. Ana Maria Mihalcea, sharing her experience with Alternative Therapies for chronic diseases as well as preventative early screening technologies.  Annie Barrett of Vibrant Soulful Wellness Academy will wrap the day up with a great interactive presentation on the “Five Habits of Longevity”.

New this year will be a panel of professionals sharing their wisdom and tips on “Finding Your Social Self” – what are the health benefits of socializing/staying engaged vs. the adverse health effects of staying isolated?  A second panel of professionals will cover some of our most requested topics, including financial & legal concerns, how to find the care you need and what type of senior living facility may be best in different situations.

Finally, the conference will stick to the format of having morning and afternoon Break Out sessions, where attendees can select from a variety of topics such as “Where Do I Go/What Do I Do When I Have No Power of Attorney”, to “New Options for Disposition Choices”.  Due to their popularity, Yoga, Zumba, Meditation and Brain Fitness will once again be offered as Break Out sessions.

Attendance is FREE, courtesy of the over 30 local business sponsors; however, seating is limited so pre-registration is STRONGLY encouraged.  Visit either the Olympia or Lacey Senior Centers for a registration form or call Senior Services at (360) 586-6181 OR download a registration form at   www.senioraction.net.
