What began as a late-night resale project is now Evergreen Kids Co, a growing children’s clothing business run by Ali Daugherty, a kindergarten teacher at Griffin School in Olympia. After selling outgrown clothes from her two children, ages 4 and 18 months, on Whatnot, Daugherty expanded into new items, wholesale buying and original designs.

The side business has produced more than $70,000 in sales in less than a year. Daugherty works after teaching and after her own children are in bed, handling live shows, packaging, invoices, inventory, designer communication and manufacturing details, sometimes at 2 a.m. local time. One live auction brought in $1,700. She has hired an accountant and plans to add one or two staff members to help manage the workload.
Daugherty says the income has helped pay for a Disneyland trip and her daughter’s birthday celebration while also being reinvested in the company. She advises other sellers to be honest, connect with customers and keep going. “Whatnot makes it to where literally anyone can just press go and sell things,” she said. Shoppers can find her live sales through Whatnot.
