Some of my best memories growing up happened at the mall. Mother-daughter days of back-to-school shopping. Then, the first taste of independence when I was given some cash and dropped to shop with friends. Priceless moments that couldn’t have happened anywhere else. And if you haven’t been to the Capital Mall lately because you like to shop local, you are missing out! Along with the national brands you love, Capital Mall boasts more than 25 locally-owned businesses that are waiting for you to discover them! To support that effort, Capital Mall has launched the Support LOC-OLY campaign.
“Capital Mall has always been a community-focused shopping center,” shares Cassidy Badger, Capital Mall marketing and business development manager. “We know our community cares deeply about supporting local businesses and being intentional about where they shop. Support LOC-OLY is our way of celebrating those businesses, sharing their stories, and reflecting the values that are important to Olympia.”

Support LOC-OLY Helps Shoppers Discover Local Brands
The ongoing campaign includes featured articles and interview-style spotlights of locally-owned businesses on the Capital Mall website. “These stories will give shoppers an inside look at the businesses, their owners, and their connections to the Olympia community,” shares Cassidy.
Shoppers will also find signage throughout the Capital Mall, so you can be sure the store you are patronizing is proudly locally owned. You may have been shopping at a store already and not even known they were local! The Capital Mall wants to change that and encourage those who have not yet discovered their local shops to do so more easily.
“Support LOC-OLY is one way we’re intentionally investing in our local tenants by helping share their stories and encouraging our community to shop local whenever possible,” shares Cassidy. “We’re also always looking for new small businesses, entrepreneurs, and locally owned concepts to join Capital Mall and become part of what makes this community so special.”
The small businesses in the Capital Mall are thrilled about the campaign. “The response from our tenants has been very positive,” shares Cassidy. “Many are excited to have an opportunity to share their stories and be featured through the campaign. Small business owners put so much of themselves into what they do, and we’re excited to help shine a spotlight on the people behind these businesses.”
And if you are a small business looking for a spot with a great footprint and lots of traffic and visibility, talk to Cassidy about spaces available. “Capital Mall offers small businesses something that can be difficult to replicate elsewhere: consistent customer traffic, visibility, and built-in community engagement,” she explains. “The center welcomes more than 6.4 million visits annually, and that number continues to grow. In addition to foot traffic, tenants benefit from community events, digital marketing support, social media promotion, and opportunities to participate in center-wide initiatives. We view our tenants as partners and work to help them reach new customers and build awareness within the community.”
Want to be sure not to miss any of the features on local businesses? Community members can sign up for Capital Mall’s email newsletter and receive updates about events, promotions, new businesses, blog content, and future Support LOC-OLY features.

Find Small Business Pop-Ups at the Capital Mall
For mall shoppers, there is always something new to discover at the Capital Mall! Not only do they have more than two dozen permanent small businesses, but they support local artists and makers with their Makers Markets hosted by The Glided Creatrix. Upcoming dates include July 18, September 19 and November 21. It’s free to attend these events, meet local artists and buy some amazing items for any occasion.
Through the end of September, the Capital Mall also has go-karts in the mall parking lot, owned and operated by a local business. “It’s a fun activity for families and visitors this summer,” says Cassidy.
“Support LOC-OLY is just one piece of our broader commitment to supporting local businesses,” adds Cassidy. “We are always exploring opportunities for additional local events, pop-up experiences, partnerships with community organizations, and new ways to help small businesses connect with shoppers. Our goal is to continue creating opportunities for local entrepreneurs to grow and succeed.”
At the end of the day, we all know that where our hard-earned dollars go matters. Supporting local businesses supports families we know: friends and neighbors. And at the Capital Mall, you can shop at national brands giving local people jobs as well as locally-owned small businesses. It’s a win-win.
And you will create your own priceless memories while you are at it.
“We hope readers know that local businesses are already an important part of Capital Mall and the Olympia community,” finishes Cassidy. “As a gathering place for so many families, friends, and neighbors, we believe it’s important to do our part to support the entrepreneurs and small business owners who help make our community special.”
