Vehicle Licensing Services Temporarily Offline June 13–14 for System Upgrade

Submitted by Thurston County Auditor

Thurston County residents planning to renew vehicle tabs or conduct vessel licensing transactions online or in person This coming weekend will need to plan ahead.

The Washington State Department of Licensing (DOL) is launching a major system software upgrade, which will require a complete shutdown of the state’s DRIVES licensing system over the June 13–15 weekend.

To ensure a smooth transition, deadlines and service interruptions for Thurston County subagencies and online users are as follows:

  • Online Services Shutdown: All online vehicle and vessel transactions will be unavailable starting Saturday, June 13, at 12 p.m. (noon).

  • Subagency Hours After Shutdown: Licensing subagents will have access after noon until they close their doors on Saturday. You can find their hours here: https://www.thurstoncountywa.gov/departments/auditor/licensing-services/licensing-subagents

  • Service Restoration: All online services and local subagency operations are scheduled to resume on Monday, June 15.

Any online transactions left pending when the system goes offline will be securely processed once the system returns to service on Monday morning. Residents are encouraged to complete any pressing renewals before Friday, June 12, to avoid potential weekend delays.
