Grand Mound Boosters has received a generous lumber donation from Parr Lumber Rochester’s store manager Tyler Balm, to support its addition of a new piece of playground equipment: a gaga pit.

Nicole Slaby, President of the Grand Mound Boosters, announced the completion of a new gaga pit on the Grand Mound Elementary School playground, a project funded by the Boosters following a vote in June 2025.

“Last June, our Boosters voted to dedicate funds toward adding a gaga pit to the Grand Mound Elementary playground. Thanks to the combined efforts of the Boosters, Rochester School District Maintenance Director Ed Dowell, community volunteer Kyle Steelhammer, and Parr Lumber Rochester store manager Tyler Balm, we were able to install it in time for students to enjoy this school year,” Slaby said.

She noted that Rochester School District policy allows community use of playground areas during daylight hours after school, meaning the new gaga pit will be open to families and community members as well.

“This project is a true testament to what our community can achieve when we work together for our students. Thanks to the early vision of our Boosters, crucial guidance from our school office, collaboration from district leadership, incredible generosity of local partners like Parr Lumber, and hard work of parents, we have built something truly special. We are thrilled to provide our students with an exciting new space to channel their energy, helping them return to the classroom ready to learn,” GMES Principal, Dan Aragon said.

Grand Mound Booster Board Member, Summer Steelhammer said, “This was truly a community effort! This project was made possible through the support of parents/families, along with the help of volunteers, school staff, and community partners. We are excited to see students and families enjoying the new gaga ball pit for years to come.”
