Submitted by Washington Center for the Performing Arts

The Washington Center for the Performing Arts is thrilled to announce two winners of the Anacker Scholarship for the Arts for 2026! According to Education and Community Engagement Director, Jennifer Hermann, “This scholarship signifies not only recognition of these students many accomplishments but also our belief in their potential to make a meaningful impact through their dedication to the arts.”

Lucas Dyvig is a senior at Olympia High School and an accomplished trombonist active in Wind Ensemble, Symphony Orchestra, and Jazz Band. A three-time first-place winner of the WIAA/WMEA State Solo Competition (2024–2026), he also serves as principal trombone of the Tacoma Youth Symphony and has performed with NAfME All-Northwest and WMEA All-State honor groups. This fall, he will study trombone performance. Lucas says, “I believe that supporting the youth in the arts is vital to our world’s culture and ensuring the preservation of tradition.”

Adeline Rice is a senior at Black Hills High School and has been passionate about music her entire life, participating in Band, Jazz Band, Marching Band, Choir, and youth symphony. The Washington Center for the Performing Arts has hosted many of her most memorable experiences, including her orchestral conducting debut. This fall, Adeline will pursue a double major in Oboe Performance and Music Education before continuing graduate and doctoral studies in orchestral conducting. She says, “I’m excited to be an advocate for the arts, especially music, for the rest of my life, and to contribute positively to the industry as much as I can.”

The Washington Center is thrilled to award Lucas and Adeline with the Anacker Scholarship to support their future education.

First awarded in 2014, the Washington Center Anacker Scholarship for the Arts recognizes, encourages, and supports a Thurston County Scholar’s study in the field of the arts. The scholarship was endowed by former Washington Center Board President Sally Anacker, who believes the arts exist to enrich our lives. “If the arts exist to enrich our lives… then the Washington Center’s mission must surely be not only to provide the various art forms but to nurture the pursuit of them in our young people,” said Anacker.
