May is National Military Appreciation Month. At Boggs Inspection Services, they honor service members and their families with discounted inspections all month long. Giving back, whether through donations and discounts or providing top-quality service, has been vital to the Boggs mission since day one.
Honoring Washington State’s Long, Celebrated Military History
This time of honor and remembrance was set aside by Congress in 1999. May was chosen because it already contained several military-related holidays, like Europe’s VE Day on May 8, Military Spouse Appreciation Day (the Friday before Mother’s Day), Armed Forces Day (the third Saturday) and Memorial Day (the last Monday of the month).
Reports from the Washington State Department of Commerce show that Washington ranks sixth in the nation when it comes to active-duty military. They explain that our region’s “deep water ports, strategically located airports, proximity to the Pacific Rim and integrated rail and road system, as well as a pro-military civilian population, allow the various branches to meet their mission needs with tremendous flexibility and collaboration.”
Because of this, Department of Commerce research shows, “[Joint Base Lewis-McChord] is the largest joint base west of the Rockies and the most requested separation duty station in the U.S. Army. The state hosts the only Navy station that has an airfield, strategic weapons facility and shipyard in the same vicinity and [Puget Sound Naval Shipyard] has the only dry dock on the west coast capable of handling Nimitz-class aircraft carriers. Washington’s Coast Guard base supports homeland security in four states and patrols all 460,000 miles of the Pacific Ocean.”
This area has a longstanding military history as well, says the Washington Military Department. Our state’s founders created an organized militia in 1855, which became the official state militia in 1890. In 1903, the Washington National Guard was created and the Washington State Guard restored in 1960, having already provided support in both World Wars, to stand in for deployed National Guard troops.

Boggs Inspection Services Helps Provide a Home Sweet Home for Military Families
In Washington State, just over 10% of homes are purchased through the Veterans Administration (VA). Many VA loans require zero down payment, which helps in our hot, hectic housing market. Because of benefits like these, veteran homeownership rates of 78% outpace the overall population’s rate of 65% nationwide.
Regardless of a family’s financing, Western Washington housing markets have been challenging for many years. This sometimes drives buyers to skip important steps like inspections so they can quickly complete the transaction and settle in.
At Boggs Inspection Services, they understand that skipping an inspection is never a good idea. Their technology is able to see beneath the surface and find problems invisible to the naked eye or even before they fail.
Dwayne Boggs and his team carefully look over each site’s roof, interior, exterior, electrical, HVAC, plumbing, carport or garage, structure, foundation, water, sewer or septic, and even check for pests, mold and wood-destroying organisms like termites.

Easy to Understand Inspection Results for Buyers, Sellers and Those with a Honey-Do List
The most common home inspections are done when buying (ask about their pay at close options) or selling a home but if you’ve lived in the same place for many years, consider an annual maintenance inspection to check for age, weather or water damage. Boggs also inspects commercial properties, log cabins and manufactured homes.
At Boggs, final reports can contain thermal and infrared scans, 360 photos and detailed summaries, like this sample provided to make clients comfortable with what to expect.
They also offer a pre-listing checklist if you’re thinking of listing a home and annual home maintenance checklist with monthly chores to keep the workload light. If your home does need repair, check out their top rated vendors in multiple categories across both Thurston and Pierce counties.
Want to ask questions along the way? Ask about the Walk & Talk pre-offer, review, evaluation and consultation service. This shorter, report-free exploratory consultation reviews and evaluates the foundation, crawlspace, roof, attic and exterior as well as performing a limited evaluation of the electrical panel.
As May rolls around, thank your military family, friends and neighbors for service past and present. And if someone you love is facing deployment, moving home after an extended absence or tackling long-overdue fixes, have them call Boggs Inspection Services at 360.480.9602 and ask for the military appreciation discount.
