Local PSL (Puget Sound League) girls tennis teams battled each other on Tuesday, March 31, 2026, as Timberline High School hosted their cross-town rivals from River Ridge High School. The varsity team of River Ridge won the match four games to one. The Hawks had strong play from varsity singles players Kiyomi Soejima, Valerie Hoefer and Siena Grubb, along with great teamwork from the doubles pairs of Kiley Deuel and Lindsay Chau, and Sophie Jones McKayla and Guilbe Ortiz.

Third-year Timberline head coach Alliniece Andino was excited to actually be able to have a match after limited practice and game availability due to the March weather. “I’m really proud of the grit and perseverance of my team due to some of the weather challenges,” remarked Andino. “This year’s team is an amazingly talented group with a mix of some returning players and some new athletic and incredibly powerful newcomers.”

Timberline has 17 players on its team and coach Andino spoke highly of a few of her strong leaders, including junior Anique Torres-Caire and senior Anna Bauersfeld. “I have some great leaders in Anique and Anna and I’ve also seen great help and leadership from Josalyn [Moss] and Lina [McDaniel], who are one of my new strong doubles teams.”

“This team is gelling really well with some very positive attitudes, which just makes my job easier and the atmosphere on the entire team brighter,” she continued.

Penelope Payne, Amanda Lee, Savannah Vanderstigchel and “Ellie” Hehemann round out the other varsity members of the Blazers team.
