Goldfish Swim School will begin construction this summer on its new facility in Lacey. The premier swim school for youth from four months through 12 years expects to open later this year. In what used to be the Tuesday Morning retail store, a transformation will be taking place. Yes, it will be a big dig within the 7,000 sq. ft. space. The school will be the third franchise location for Corri and Mitch Hastings and business partner John Higgins. Corri acts as the regional general manager.
Business Ownership + Swimming Passion = Goldfish Swim School
“My husband always wanted to own his own business,” says Corri. “He knows I’m passionate about swimming. I started to swim around the age of three and competitively at seven.”
“Let’s do this,” they agreed. Their first experience with Goldfish Swim School was in Wisconsin when their daughter was 18 months old. “It was great. She loves the water and is on a swim team now,” Corri adds. (She’s nine now.) She moved up into the Mini 3 class which is for those very young ones who naturally love being in the water and progressed through all the Goldfish levels.
After moving to the Northwest, they opened their first Goldfish Swim School in Puyallup in the fall of 2023 and the second in Tacoma in January of this year. “I love coming to work every day. It’s fun to watch children master a new skill. And it is a great experience for the parents, too,” she adds.

New In-Ground Pool and Facility are State of the Art and Shiver-Free
Young swimmers and parents will appreciate the 90-degree water temperature. Gone are the days seemingly freezing water temperatures and whining children who were dragged to their lessons. Goldfish Swim School will be a place for everyone that is fun to attend.
Parents of the youngest swimmers are in the pool with them. As they grow in skills and confidence, parents can sit in the temperature-controlled viewing room to watch the lessons from comfy chairs.
Swim Lessons and More at Goldfish Swim School
With Goldfish Swim School’s proprietary curriculum, The Science of SwimPlay, and small class sizes, children will be able to develop essential, life-saving swim skills and build confidence through guided play. The holistic philosophy builds life skills both in and of the water through this engaging learning. The curriculum integrates water safety with cognitive development. Children learn to swim and enhance their overall developmental skills.
Water Safety and Swimming Skills are Essential
The Center for Disease Control (CDC) confirms that drowning remains the leading cause of death for children ages one to four. Numbers have increased over the past few years. Children under five also visit emergency rooms for non-fatal drowning injuries. Goldfish Swim School is doing its part to change these statistics.
The water safety experts at Goldfish Swim School are proud to be a new resource for the Lacey and Thurston County community throughout the entire year. Parents and children can learn water safety best practices together to be prepared wherever they happen to be.

Goldfish Swim School Offers Personal Attention and Flexibility
Membership is set up on a monthly basis. Parents pick a regular time and date for a weekly class. To provide instructor consistency, the four sessions during the month are taught by the same person. “We do our absolute best to work with families,” says Corri. A notable benefit of the school is that children can move to an advance level as soon as they are ready. There’s no need to wait for the next session. Instructors tune into the abilities of each student.
The focus on lessons is in the evenings and on the weekends. The last evening class begins at 7 p.m. and ends at 7:30 p.m. “The weekends are really popular,” notes Corri. Mornings and early afternoon times depend on demand. “We use the data we collect to craft lessons around the needs of the community,” Corri assures prospective members.
“I am so excited to bring a Goldfish location to the Lacey community. I love it when kids go through the program and later tell me that they are joining a swim team,” she says.
