Visit a North Thurston Public Schools kindergarten classroom, and you will see young learners engaged in hands-on learning and building social-emotional skills! NTPS offers full-day kindergarten at our elementary schools.

Enrollment is now open for kindergarten for the 2026-27 school year. A child is eligible if they turn 5 on or before August 31, 2026.

Upon enrollment, students receive a welcome bag with information, a school sticker, and a new book. Families who register by May 1, 2026, will be entered for a chance to win prizes donated by our community partners!

Visit the NTPS website to enroll. That page also has information about riding the bus, school meals, school supplies, and more.

Getting Ready for Kindergarten

We strive to make sure every student feels welcome and excited to start their K-12 education with NTPS. Our teachers offer Family Connections meetings at the start of the year to get to know you and your student. These one-on-one conversations are a great way to share more about your student’s strengths, interests, worries, and more. Schools also offer open houses or other back-to-school events.

In the months leading up to kindergarten, you can help your student practice routines and build independence at school: putting on their coat and backpack, bathroom and handwashing steps, picking up after themselves, taking turns, and using positive words are all helpful skills to make their transition to school as smooth as possible.

We look forward to welcoming the class of 2039 this fall!
