Providence Medical Group Southwest Washington is excited to share that we’ve joined the international “Walk with a Doc” movement – an inspiring program that encourages people to improve their health through movement, connection and community. This project was made possible thanks to funding from the Providence Southwest Foundation’s Greatest Need fund.
“Walk with a Doc” was started in 2005 by David Sabgir, MD, a board-certified cardiologist in Columbus, Ohio. The program now extends to hundreds of chapters around the world.

What is ‘Walk with a Doc?‘
The concept is simple: health care professionals organize walks in their communities and invite their patients, families and community members to join them. The walks are free and open to people of all ages and abilities.
Each walk provides an opportunity to enjoy fresh air, build healthy habits, ask questions and connect with health care professionals in a relaxed, supportive environment.
Why Walking Matters
Even small steps can lead to big improvements. According to the American Heart Association, walking just 30 minutes a day can help:
- Improve blood pressure and blood sugar levels
- Maintain a healthy weight and reduce obesity risk
- Boost mental well-being
- Lower the risk of osteoporosis
It’s a simple, powerful way to invest in your health – and doing it with others makes it even better.

Join Us for Our First Walk
Our first event will take place:
- Location: Rainier Vista Community Park, 5475 45th Ave SE in Lacey
- Date: March 28
- Time: 10 – 11 a.m.
- Led by: Dr. Rachel Ballou
Future walks will be held on the fourth Saturday of every month. In case of inclement weather, we’ll move indoors to Capital Mall, meeting at the JCPenney entrance.
