The Evergreen State College is ranked #21 on the NAIA Women’s Indoor Track and Field Rating Index as released by the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) on January 26. The rating list highlights the top 25 teams in the NAIA according to their performances this season.
Central Methodist University (Mo.) led the NAIA women’s indoor track index with 209.68 points. Doane University (Neb.) followed in second place with 167.21 points. Milligan University (Tenn.) owned the #3 rating at 146.57 points. Indiana Tech was listed at #4 with 136.77 points, and Dickinson State University (N.D.) was #5 with 133.46 points.
Evergreen is the only women’s team from the Cascade Collegiate Conference in this week’s national rating. The Geoducks are ranked #1 in the CCC and are #1 in the West Region.
Two Geoducks have qualified for the NAIA Women’s Indoor Track and Field Championships. The national meet will be held at the Alachua County Sports & Events Center in Gainesville, Florida, from March 5-7.
Both Izabelle Trefts (Sr.) and Madison Palek (So.) have qualified for the NAIA Championships in the indoor 3,000-meter race walk. Trefts earned an NAIA “A” qualifying time of 13:37.27 and a first place finish in the 3,000-meter race walk at the Concordia University Polar Dog Invite in Seward, Nebraska, on Friday, Jan. 23. It was the second-fastest time in a NAIA race walking history. Palek also qualified for nationals during the race walk at Concordia. Trefts is the defending NAIA national champion in the indoor 3,000-meter race walk.
The Evergreen men’s and women’s track and field teams will compete at the UW Invite on Friday, Jan. 30 and at the Mile City meet on Saturday, Jan. 31. Both competitions will be held at the Dempsey Indoor track and field facility on the University of Washington campus in Seattle.
