Guy Becken and Roberta Brooks have experienced a lot together over the years, especially through their shared interest in scuba diving when they worked and volunteered at the Seattle Aquarium. Today the couple is navigating through a different adventure in their lives. This time it’s at Penrose & Associates Physical Therapy in Lacey, where they are both receiving treatment to keep them strong and active as they heal from health challenges.

“The people are fantastic,” says Guy of the Penrose team.

Penrose Physical Therapy is an Important Resource for Active Couple Who Faced Health Issues

Guy suffered a stroke in 2020. He had to rebuild his short-term memory, plus receive physical therapy to address a weakness on his right side. He came to Penrose for physical rehabilitation and to learn exercises to restore his strength. Those personal training exercises included boxing to improve his balance, stability and reaction time, and to help avoid falls. “He has come a long way,” says Roberta of Guy’s progress through the Penrose treatment plan. “Now he can even hold both arms over his head.”

“Going has made a big difference,” agrees Guy.

Roberta came to Penrose for back problems about three years ago and tapped the staff’s expertise again as she later healed from hip and knee replacements. In addition, she received Stimpod for neuropathy, which is nerve damage causing weakness or pain. Stimpod is a regenerative therapy using pulsed radio frequency to reset abnormal nerve signals and reduce inflammation.

Roberta and Guy say their weekly Penrose appointments provide valuable information about exercises and physical therapy strategies that help them progress toward their goals to restore their activity levels. They also receive instruction sheets explaining how to continue their efforts at home and learned to use an app that walks them through exercises.
