Grand Mound Boosters has received a $4000 grant from the Weyerhaeuser Giving Fund to support its third Annual Read-A-Thon at the Grand Mound Elementary School (GMES).
Nicole Slaby, President of the Grand Mound Boosters said the funds would be used to help foster the love of reading of the 500+ students attending GMES and help them reach a daily reading goal of 20 minutes or more each day. What we hope to see is that the third graders discover they really can read chapter books all on their own, and that the fourth and fifth graders realize how awesome chapter books are, if they haven’t already.
“With the generosity of the Weyerhaeuser Giving Fund, we can kick off the event by gifting each student “The Wild Robot Protects”, by Dan Brown, as well as providing some great reading incentive prizes along the way. It’s an overwhelming feeling of appreciation that the Weyerhaeuser Giving Fund has honored our community in this way,” President Nicole Slaby said.
In both rural and urban settings, the Weyerhaeuser Giving Fund supports hundreds of important organizations and programs in the communities where they operate with funding, time, expertise and resources. Weyerhaeuser made its first charitable donation in 1903 and has provided more than $270 million in grants through its formal giving program, which was established in 1948.
