Politics are many things, but these days topping that list is: exhausting. The 24/7 global news cycle of political machinations can feel like a roller coaster of events, updates and activities. Add in awkward conversations with extended family over the Thanksgiving turkey or controversial bumper stickers at every stoplight and it’s a lot to navigate. Thankfully, the Washington Center for the Performing Arts is here to help! On Thursday, October 9, 2025, they welcome the Capitol Fools to bring levity and a new perspective through humor, song, parodies and impressions. For once, politics will help lower your blood pressure because laughter is always the best medicine.

The Capitol Fools Hold Satirical Mirror to Political Culture from the Washington Center Stage

Believing that we need comedy now more than ever, the Capitol Fools are kicking off fall 2025 with their latest tour. Writer Mark Eaton says this upcoming visit to Olympia is part of a mini excursion to the Northwest before heading to shows in Illinois and beyond.

Taking the Washington Center stage will be six performers and a pianist. Eaton says that audiences often comment that they thought there were more actors but, “It’s amazing what bad wigs and duct tape mustaches can do!”

In this current guise, the Fools haven’t performed in Olympia before. But they’re all former members of the Capitol Steps – who claim to put the mock in democracy – and as such have done numerous shows at the Washington Center. When the Capitol Steps disbanded during the pandemic, the Capitol Fools were reincarnated from that talented cast.

Ever-Changing Comedy Shows Reflect an Ever-Changing Political Climate…Plus Singing!

The Fools are constantly working on new material and updating songs to match the news of the week, day or moment, explains Eaton. They never pick sides. “We believe everybody in politics deserves a good mocking,” he says. “And let’s face it, if we don’t laugh at some of these issues, they’d probably make us cry.”

“It can be hard to keep up, but we do our best,” he explains. “If folks have seen the show in the past, they know they are in for a night of laughs. And since the show changes as the headlines do, they are going to see lots of new material. If you haven’t seen us before, please know that we are equal opportunity offenders. You think we are being too hard on your party? Just hold on because we are after the other side next.”

You can follow the Capitol Fools on Facebook and Instagram. Their YouTube channel and media portal have plenty of clips and interviews as well. Their Olympia show kicks off at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, October 9 and tickets are available now.

The Washington Center welcomes more than just theatrical shows. For the 2025-2026 season they’ll showcase lectures, comedy, music, drama, silent films, sing-alongs and so much more. Season tickets are available now. Photo courtesy: The Washington Center for the Performing Arts
