Katie Burnett, assistant cross country and track and field coach at The Evergreen State College, will represent the United States at the 2025 Pan American Race Walk Championships on Saturday, May 17, 2025, in Anapoima, Colombia. Burnett recently received her U.S. National Team gear.
Burnett qualified for the Pan American Championships by winning the 2025 USATF 35-kilometer Race Walk Championship in January. She won the competition in 3:05:10 against strong competition. Burnett has won a total of five USATF National Championships at four different distances in race walking.
A total of 15 countries have confirmed that they will be participating in the Pan American Championships this weekend.
In addition, Burnett won the 2025 USA Track and Field Ohio Association Race Walk Championship at the 35-kilometer distance on May 4. Her time in Ohio was 3:04:17.75.
Burnett is likely to have enough points as the U.S. Champion and in the World Rankings to qualify for the 2025 World Athletics Championships in the 35-kilometer race walk. The World Championships will be held in Tokyo, Japan, in September.
“I am excited to be representing the U.S. at the Pan American Race Walk Championships for the fifth time.” Burnett said. “It’s always special getting the race kit in the mail, and wearing the U.S. team gear makes me able to dig even deeper in the race.
“The rankings are looking good right now for me to qualify for the Tokyo World Athletics Championships,” she added. “I have twice represented the U.S. in World Championships at the 50km distance, so the 35km will be a different challenge.”
