Meeting the Needs of Our Littlest Students at Evergreen Explorers Preschoolf
Olivia Huynh says that opening the school has been a passion ever since she was a kid herself. The oldest sibling in her family, she took care of younger brothers and sisters and didn’t always find herself loving the responsibilities. But she quickly noticed “how much adults shape who you are,” she says, “and I wanted to pay it forward.”
Before starting her own business, Olivia worked in various childcare facilities for more than a decade. In a camp setting, for example, she loved how amazing the kids were. “It really surprised me by how much they wanted to engage with the adults,” she adds. “It’s really cool to see the thought processes of a child because as adults we forget that kids really do listen and internalize what we say. I wanted to be that adult in their lives.”
She also has experience as a private caregiver, Head Start consultant and now finally has a school of her own.

Lacey Preschool Helps Kids and Families Find Safe, Nurturing Learning Opportunities
At Evergreen Explorers Preschool, families can opt for the morning session from 8 a.m. until noon, the afternoon classes from noon until 5 p.m. or all-day options. Class sizes are kept small, so each student receives plenty of individualized care.
Oliva believes kids should feel safe to make mistakes, learn and grow at their own pace. She encourages mixed-age classrooms and loves how a preschool helps give kids a little more time so they can feel safe and acclimate before starting school.
With experience in curriculum development, indoor and outdoor education, childcare and development, Evergreen Explorers is accepting new students now. Olivia also believes in transparency and being up-front. If the school doesn’t feel like a good fit for a student, she’s happy to discuss options with families. Program and tuition details are clearly posted and she’s always ready to chat with prospective students, families and caregivers.

A DCYF-Licensed Preschool in Lacey Gives Parents Extra Support and Confidence
Olivia was recently granted status as a DCYF-licensed preschool. Going through certification with the Washington State Department of Children, Youth & Families wasn’t easy. “It was interesting to see what the whole process entails because it’s quite strenuous,” she says. “I can see why licensed facilities are few and far between!”
At the end of the day, however, it’s about making a difference. Olivia says she just wants to meet kids where they are and give them the time and care they need. “I do this because I want to help the best way I can and give back to our community,” she explains.
“I can create something, so they don’t get lost in high ratio classes and it’s been a really fun journey,” she continues. “We are a community, and this school is just an extension of what parents can teach. Hopefully families can feel my passion, care and focus on a healthy culture.”
