As part of the Lacey Loves to Read community initiative to encourage students to become lifelong readers, North Thurston Public Schools recently honored its 2024-25 Lacey Loves to Read bookmark winners! These students’ beautiful pieces were selected from hundreds of entries from around the district:

  • Rose, North Thurston High School (Grade 9)
  • Maribel, Aspire Performing Arts Academy (Grade 7)
  • Olivia, Evergreen Forest Elementary (Grade 4)
  • Jayden, Lakes Elementary (Grade 3)
  • Avianna, Woodland Elementary (Grade 1)
  • Violet, homeschool student
  • Superintendent’s Choice: Lilian, River Ridge High School (Grade 11)

The students received a prize package and were recognized at a recent Lacey City Council meeting. They also got to meet the 2025 Lacey Loves to Read featured author, Varian Johnson, during the annual author event on February 13, 2025.

Lacey Loves to Read is a partnership between NTPS, Timberland Regional Library, Friends of the Lacey Library, and Lacey Parks, Culture & Recreation. Lacey Loves to read includes the annual bookmark contest, community author event, Read Around Lacey, short story writing contests, and more!
