TOGETHER! is excited to announce the “Expanding Your Horizons (EYH) TOGETHER” conference, formerly EYH Thurston County, will take place Saturday, March 15, 2025, at South Puget Sound Community College! Now organized by TOGETHER!, a public health and educational justice-focused nonprofit, continues to inspire and empower the next generation of young women and trans and non-binary young people of all genders interested in Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Math (STEAM) fields.

For over 35 years, Expanding Your Horizons has been dedicated to advancing representation of women, and more recently women of color and nonbinary people, in STEAM. The conference features keynote speakers and hands-on workshops led by women and trans and nonbinary leaders of all genders who are experts in their respective fields. EYH attracts students from a wide region, including Thurston, Mason, Grays Harbor, Pacific, Pierce, and Lewis counties and beyond. The event is specifically designed for girls, and trans and non-binary youth of all genders, in grades 6–8who are curious about science, technology, engineering, and math.

This conference is a response to the growing need for initiatives that inspire and support youth from diverse backgrounds to explore STEM careers. By increasing access and representation and working to remove barriers for youth furthest from educational justice, we unlock potential and strengthen our shared future, helping shape a more diverse and innovative workforce that will address global challenges and create a positive impact in our local communities.

This year’s conference promises to offer engaging, interactive sessions that will encourage students to explore the many exciting opportunities in STEAM.

As the event transitions to being run by TOGETHER!, we recognize the incredible impact of the dedicated volunteer committee that has made this program a success over the years. Retiring Thurston EYH committee President Katya Miltimore shares, “It has been an honor to serve in various roles for this event, including as the most recent chair of the committee, and help continue a decades-long effort of countless women in our community to grow such a transformative event for young people in the region. Watching students discover their passion for STEAM and seeing them connect with role models in the field has been incredibly rewarding. I’m thrilled to see this legacy continue with TOGETHER! at the helm.”

TOGETHER!’s Co-Executive Director Sierra Abrams expressed excitement about the future of EYH, saying, “We are proud to carry forward this important work and expand opportunities for girls, trans & non-binary youth to thrive in STEAM. The conference has inspired so many young people, and we are excited to build on this strong legacy. We look forward to continuing to advance educational access, equity, and justice together.”
