3A/4A Volleyball Preview
North Thurston and Olympia return to the 3A and 4A tournaments being joined by Timberline this year. Olympia in 4A play, enters as the #7 seed and will take on #10 Eastlake.
Olympia head coach, Christie Oldright, says her team is young and hungry as they enter the 4A bracket. “We have some great leadership that has bridged the transition from last season,” Oldright stated. “The Bears played great volleyball at the district tournament. We are excited to step on the court against a competitive team next weekend.”
In 3A play, North Thurston as the #2 seed, returns to the state tournament determined to place this year. The Rams will play the winner of the #18 Ferndale vs #15 Bellevue Thursday play in game.
Jackie Meyer, head coach for North Thurston, is excited for her team. “The past two years we have gone undefeated in league and districts with a 43-0 record and we have a very young team who showed up in big moments and are very excited to head to the state tournament,” remarked Meyer. “I am very proud of how they have come together as a team and am excited to see what they achieve this weekend. Go Rams.”
Making it to the state tournament is a monumental achievement for Timberline, especially considering the journey the team has been on since its last appearance in 2017. Timberline enters as the #11 seed and plays #6 Mt. Spokane.
Matt Monnastes, head coach for the Blazers, loves his team’s spirit and work ethic. “The girls fought relentlessly in districts, overcoming a tough comeback against Kelso but our energy and determination was inspiring and we are ready for the fierce competition at state,” Monnastes remarked. “We are ready to bring our momentum and belief to the court and for us this was a huge goal for our program on building toward making this achievement the standard for years to come.”
