Nizhoni Tallman (Sr.) from The Evergreen State College received the Olympia & Beyond Sports Award as the Women’s Collegiate Sports Star of the Year for her efforts during the 2023-24 wrestling season for the Geoducks. The 2024 Olympia & Beyond Sports Awards Show was held on Nov. 7 at South Puget Sound Community College.
Tallman was one of the top performers on the Evergreen women’s wrestling team last season. She was chosen as an Under-23 (U-23) All-America wrestler at 50 kilograms during the National Championships. Tallman overcame injuries to earn the All-America honor. In addition, she was named All-Cascade Collegiate Conference for the Geoducks. This year, Tallman began the season ranked #11 in the NAIA rankings for the 110-pound weight class. Evergreen received votes in the NAIA Preseason Team Rankings in women’s wrestling.
A total of four Evergreen student-athletes were nominated for the Olympia & Beyond Sports Awards this year. In addition to Tallman, other nominees for Women’s Collegiate Sports Star of the Year were Alauna Carstens from the women’s cross country team and Flor Parker Borrero from the women’s wrestling team. Men’s soccer player Emmanuel Nicasio was nominated for Men’s Collegiate Sports Star of the Year.
