The Yelm Football team defeated Olympia High School 36-13 Thursday, October 24, 2024, in a 4A WIAA SPSL game. The win secures the #2 seed for the Tornadoes moving into the playoffs. Both teams wait for Friday results, which will determine final SPSL seedings.

Yelm (7-1, 4-1 SPSL) scored early and its defensive pressure forced four first-half interceptions with the Tornadoes heading into halftime with a 22-0 lead. Jay Sumich scored first for Yelm on a 25-yard reception from junior quarterback Parker Myers.
Yelm Head coach Jason Ronquillo was happy with his team’s performance and likes his team’s energy heading into the 4A playoffs. “We’re in a good position to make a run in the playoffs and I like how we are developing,” Ronquillo stated. “Although we got healthy in some regards, we got a little dinged up tonight but we will be ready as we will play the winner of Puyallup and Curtis game held Friday, October 25.”
Olympia will look to reset as it prepares for another game next week. Like Yelm, Olympia will wait for results from Friday, which will determine their opponent for the November 1 game.
Yelm’s Parker Myers threw for 239 yards with four touchdowns on the night. Jacob Ford led the Tornadoes with three receptions for 99 yards and a touchdown. On Defense, Chris Hauss stood out having eight tackles, three TFLs (tackles for loss) and two sacks.
Yelm looks to return to the State Championship game where it lost last year (0-14 Bellevue) in the 3A Division and won the previous year 20-13 over Eastside Catholic.
