Nestled between different corners of Thurston County, the Briggs Community is an emerging neighborhood that bridges rural and suburban, with nearby access to local schools, shopping centers and green spaces. Located along the Yelm Highway on the divide between Olympia and Tumwater, the Briggs Community is also home to a range of real estate offerings, including single-family homes and townhomes.

Real Estate Experts for Olympic Sotheby’s International Realty See Demand in Briggs Community

The Briggs Community was born on a large plot of land that was once a nursery space owned by the Briggs family. Eventually, plans materialized to transform the land into a tight-knit residential space that combined homes with nearby shops and other businesses that could be accessed on foot.

Barb Furman and Katie Carter are brokers and real estate experts for Olympic Sotheby’s International Realty and have experience helping home sellers and buyers in the Briggs Community. According to Carter, a major benefit of the Briggs Community is the wide swath of housing, so potential homebuyers may be able to find an option that suits their specific needs.

Furman says the neighborhood is known for spacious, four-bedroom single-family homes with easy to care for yard space, as well as townhomes with patios, and the Briggs Community’s convenient location allows residents to travel throughout the county with ease, including a route to I-5 through Henderson Boulevard.

The area also has numerous rental options, including the Briggs Village Apartments and senior-living at the Silver Leaf Residences. A unique part of the neighborhood is the Village Cooperative of South Sound, which is open to residents age 62 and older who are interested in owning their living space. The Village Cooperative has become an increasingly popular choice for many of Carter and Furman’s clients.

“We find that it’s just really unique, and it’s not just unique to Olympia, but it’s unique to the Pacific Northwest, actually,” says Carter.

Recreation Abounds in Briggs Community With Local Eateries and Parks

With draws like the Briggs Community YMCA, Humble Cow ice cream, Briggs Taphouse and Pioneer Park, there are plenty of opportunities to create connections with neighbors. The Briggs Community YMCA is in the heart of the neighborhood, offering recreation for the whole family. The Briggs Community YMCA is a one-stop-shop for those looking to get active, and gym goers can find their ideal exercise through weight and cardio areas, an indoor cycling studio, rock climbing wall, lap pool and activity pool. For those looking to find a sense of camaraderie through exercise, group classes like pickleball, tai chi, Zumba and yoga are available throughout the week. The Briggs YMCA Kids Zone and Adventure Zone play area are dedicated spaces for the youngest members of the family to embrace their creativity and the many activities that await.

According to Furman and Carter, places like the Briggs Taphouse and Humble Cow have become great gathering spaces. The covered patio at Briggs Taphouse especially provides an ideal setting to relax and have a meal together.

“If families can walk and go get something to eat or go swim and then get ice cream, I think that’s what people really are enjoying,” says Carter.

The Briggs Taphouse has a selection of IPAs, ales and ciders as well as a robust menu of pizzas, salads and appetizers. After starting off with loaded tots or a jumbo soft pretzel, diners can choose classic pizza varieties like cheese or pepperoni, or try something new, like the chicken n’ waffles, or pickle + bacon pizzas.

Established in 2022, Humble Cow is the place for ice cream, milkshakes, floats and other frozen delectables in the Briggs Community. Those with a sweet tooth may find tried and true varieties, like rocky road and cookies & cream, or special edition selections like fall apple pie. Humble Cow also offers non-dairy options like peanut butter dark chocolate flake and strawberry.

Furman says the neighborhood’s close connection to several green spaces is also an appeal for many families who live in the area. Tumwater’s Pioneer Park is located along the Deschutes River and is an oasis for outdoor recreation, whether taking in the scenery along one of the park’s nature trails, or through a game of volleyball or soccer on one of the park’s courts.

Sitting on just under five acres, Kettle View Park is located in close proximity to the Briggs Community YMCA, local homes and the Briggs Village Apartments. Visitors can enjoy lunch under the park’s picnic shelter or take a stroll around the walking path. Kettle View Park is also home to a playground, swing set, tennis court and grass field, perfect for outdoor games or sports practice.
