Nothing slows you down more, quite literally, than foot and ankle pain. And finding the cause can be almost impossible without the help of a skilled specialist. At Olympia Orthopaedic Associates, their Foot and Ankle Center relies on hardworking team-members, like Drs. Timothy DuMontier and Richard Lamour, to keep SW Washingtonians on their feet. The team recently added Podiatrist Dr. Amy Winter to round out their medical footprint, so to speak, for patients across the region.

Lamour has been with Oly Ortho for five years, having started in September 2017. In training, he participated in two fellowships, one geared towards sports medicine and the other focusing on foot and ankle. His work today happily marries the two he says.

He and DuMontier do pretty much everything, says Lamour. “From arthritis and fracture care to sports medicine, and more,” he adds. One of their newer procedures is minimally-invasive bunion correction that reduces post-surgical symptoms and allows for a quicker recovery time. They’re also able to tackle tricker solutions from deformations of the foot and ankle to total ankle replacement surgery.

DuMontier understands what many of his patients are going through. His wife inspired him to start running but he sustained a pretty significant ankle injury during a race. “I essentially went from being an avid runner to basically the next day, I couldn’t run anymore and haven’t been able to do that for a couple of years,” he shares. “So, I can really empathize with my patients and understand that’s an important part of what they do, and also realize that sometimes we do have to make changes.”

Oly Ortho is a Full-Service Foot and Ankle Clinic

Winter, who started at Oly Ortho December 1, 2022, is a perfect counterpoint to Lamour and DuMontier. “We’ll still handle the surgical components,” says Lamour, “while Dr. Winter covers traditional podiatric care, so we don’t have to refer patients out anymore. Now we’re a full-service team. Comprehensive care so patients get everything they need.”

“We have a very nice facility with a lot of resources,” adds DuMontier, “and we’re able to take really good care of patients in a timely manner. Life is motion and motion is life, which I think fits well with the Pacific Northwest and what we do as orthopedic surgeons. We can get you back where you can enjoy your activities, be functional, and do the things that you want to do to enjoy this great area that we live in.”

Foot and Ankle treatment includes – but is not limited to – Achilles tendon injuries, bone spurs, complex fractures, heel pain, plantar fasciitis, sprains, stress fractures, and tendinitis. You don’t have to suffer from pain and limited mobility alone, Oly Ortho is here to help.

Orthopaedic Doctors Educating Patients

“People face a lot of misinformation,” explains Lamour. “Sometimes there are nonsurgical answers to help with quality of life. Things like inserts, braces or prescriptions. Technology has continued to improve. 3D-printed implants, for example, have increased longevity and outcome improvement.”

When new patients reach out to Oly Ortho, the first step includes x-rays if needed, consultation, examination, comprehensive assessment, and a shared decision regarding future treatment. There are no long wait times to get an appointment, and their team will work with you every step of the way on management of your problem.

“It’s not just about what the x-ray shows or what an MRI study shows,” says DuMontier, “It’s more of what’s the problem, how does it bother you, and what kind of things is it keeping you from doing? So, I have some idea of what we’re trying to target, of how we’re trying to improve the problem, and fit that into your life. The goal is to get you back to the things that you want to do and need to do.”

When Should You Call Oly Ortho for Foot and Ankle Pain?

We often try to power through the discomfort or solve issues with over-the-counter painkillers and anti-inflammatories. But Oly Ortho’s team has advice for hesitant patients. They say that it’s time to make an appointment if:

  • The pain becomes worse when standing
  • Pain lingers for more than two weeks
  • There’s bruising on your ankle or foot or increased swelling
  • You can’t place weight on the affected area
  • Stiffness and weakness make walking difficult

From nonsurgical options like physical therapy, activity modification, immobilization with a cast, splint, walking boot or walking shoe, to injections or surgery, Drs. Lamour, DuMontier, and Winter want to get you safely back on your feet again.

Give the team a call at 360.570.3460 or submit an online appointment request. No-one wants to face another year hurting, let the Oly Ortho Foot and Ankle team of specialists get to the bottom of the problem and sort things out properly.
