November 15 is National Philanthropy Day–a nationwide celebration of the positive impact charitable giving has on communities. In the true spirit of philanthropy, the South Puget Sound Community College (SPSCC) Foundation team will be joined by student volunteers from the SPSCC Student Cabinet who will be giving their time for a three-day phone-a-thon November 14 through November 16.

Callers will reach out to the College’s supporters to express gratitude and encourage those who have not yet made their end-of-year contributions to take this opportunity to support SPSCC student success. These calls only take only a few moments each and give the community a chance to make a huge difference in students’ lives.

The funds raised from the phone-a-thon will go to critical student needs. The need for SPSCC student support in all areas, from scholarships to emergency grant requests, has seen a dramatic increase during the pandemic and this need has remained high. In fact, in 2022 the SPSCC Foundation has already received over 1,500 student requests for support!

Evan Skytte, director of development at the SPSCC Foundation, explains the importance of National Philanthropy Day. “We try to foster a sense of philanthropy within our campus community and with our larger community,” Skytte says. “This time of year is an opportunity for everyone to think about causes they support and how they can personally make a difference. During the phone-a-thon, it is particularly powerful to work alongside student volunteers who are paying it forward to help their college peers.”

Recognized as a top 10 best community college in the nation, SPSCC serves about 4,000 students each year through academic transfer degrees, technical degrees, and professional certifications. The college serves people from all backgrounds to come as they are and connects them with academic pathways to reach their goals.

If you would like to give back this year outside of the phone-a-thon, you can help by filling out an SPSCC Foundation community engagement survey, which is open through November 15. You can also learn what’s new on campus or let us help you update your contact information so you can continue to stay informed and connected.

Creating equal access to education is a community effort and the SPSCC Foundation could not do their work without community support!  Please visit the SPSCC Foundation website and click the “Donate Now” button to make a gift to student success.
