Volunteers make our community stronger! North Thurston Public Schools (NTPS), the City of Lacey, and Lacey South Sound Chamber are proud to continue the theme of “The Spirit of Giving Back” for our 2022-23 Compassionate Community project.

The campaign will highlight the many ways students, community groups, employees, individuals, businesses, clubs, and organizations are giving back to our community.

This is a continuation of the theme from last year, when COVID-19 made volunteering a challenge.

“Acts of compassion make our district a place where everyone belongs and feels safe,” said NTPS Superintendent Deb Clemens. “The Spirit of Giving Back ties in with our district’s mission of helping all students learn to be compassionate citizens.”

The project will celebrate Lacey’s commitment to community service.

“It’s important to celebrate the ways our community gives back,” said Lacey Mayor Andy Ryder. “Acts of compassion happen every day in Lacey, and we should highlight them.”

“Chamber members and local businesses have a proud history of giving back to our community, and with the Compassionate Community project, we want to inspire others to volunteer however they can,” said Blake Knoblauch, Executive Director of Lacey South Sound Chamber and Visitors Center.

How You or Your Group Can Participate

  1. Pick up a “Spirit of Giving Back” banner before your event at:
  • NTPS District Office (305 College Street NE). Each NTPS school will also have their own banner.
  • City of Lacey (420 College Street SE)
  • The Lacey South Sound Chamber Office (3925 8th Avenue SE Ste C)
  1. Send a selfie/photo of you/your group holding the banner and a short description of your project to communications@nthurston.k12.wa.us or PublicAffairs@ci.lacey.wa.us so we can post them on our Compassionate Community Facebookpage for everyone to see (please return banners when done).
  2. If you are unable to pick up a banner, send us your service or volunteering photos anyway!

What is a Compassionate Community?

As a community, we follow the principles of the International Charter for Compassion, which recognizes we treat each other with kindness, respect differences, and make our community a place where everyone belongs and feels safe.

Past Compassionate Community projects have included campaigns such as raising funding for the Lacey Food Pantry and celebrating 100,000 Acts of Compassion.
