Ever year the Lacey South Sound Chamber of Commerce hosts the annual Candidates Forum to help the local community get better acquainted with who’s running for office this year. The Chamber of Commerce invites everyone who is running and the general public to join them on Wednesday, October 5, from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Indian Summer Golf and Country Club for this year’s debate.

Blake Knoblauch, the executive director of the Lacey South Sound Chamber and Visitors Center, explains that this event is open to the public. The Country Club will be catering the luncheon. “Each candidate will have an opportunity to get up and tell what office they’re running for,” explains Knoblauch. “They can bring campaign literature handouts and information. Then, we have a featured debate between our two candidates for County Commissioner.”

2022 Thurston County Commissioner #3 Race

This year’s featured debate is between the incumbent Democrat, Tye Mensor, and his opponent, Republican, Vivian Eason.

Aside from the Commissioner #3 seat that’s open, there are many other seats up for election, such as County Treasurer, County Assessor, and County Auditor, as well as some state seats in the House and Senate.

Renee Radcliff Sinclair, the president and CEO of TVW, Washington’s national award-winning public affairs network, is this year’s debate moderator.

“Part of the Chamber’s mission is to provide advocacy for its members, and this Candidates Forum is one way we do that,” Knoblauch explains. “The forums give Chamber members and community members an opportunity to meet the candidates and hear a great debate.”

The event is $25 for Chamber members and $30 for non-Chamber members. You can register online for Candidates Forum here.
