Thanks to the leadership of the South Sound’s Congressional Delegation, the City of Lacey (City) will receive $500,000 in federal funding to reduce barriers and enhance access for Veterans who utilize the Lacey Veterans Services Hub (Hub).

The City recently upgraded and expanded the Hub from 1,200 square feet to over 8,000 square feet to meet the overwhelming demand from area Veterans. Federal funds from the Congressional Delegation will leverage this local investment and help the City further enhance these improvements to increase accessibility to the Hub’s Veterans services.

“We are extremely appreciative of the support from our Congressional Delegation. We applaud Congresswoman Marilyn Strickland, and Senators Patty Murray and Maria Cantwell for their efforts to secure funding for this project,” stated Lacey Mayor Andy Ryder. “This funding will allow us to install an elevator in the Hub to ensure Veterans with disabilities have greater access to the facility, in addition to making other accessibility upgrades around the building. It will also provide the necessary funds to purchase tablet computers and software systems that will make it easier for Veterans to connect with services. This upgraded system will also allow the Hub to serve more Veterans to meet the overwhelming need in our community and beyond.”

The Hub is a collaborative “one-stop” approach to providing essential services to Veterans, and has rapidly expanded to include over 80 partners and providers. The comprehensive range of supportive services includes assistance with VA benefits, housing, employment, nutrition, education, healthcare, mental health, and legal aid — at one location.

In 2019, 7,508 client appointments were booked at the facility, with some Veterans arriving from over 60 miles away. All services are provided free-of-charge and no Veteran is turned away.
