The Hands On Children’s Museum will feature National Children’s Dental Health Month and promote the importance of good oral health throughout February. Children can get free dental screenings, explore an interactive dental office exhibit, and enjoy special guests and activities all month long.

If you have a baby or toddler, you may have questions about thumb sucking, your child’s first dental visit, or how and when to clean your child’s teeth. If so, you are invited to attend a free dental screening at the Museum held every Saturday in February from 2 p.m. – 4 p.m. or during First Friday Night, February 4 from 4 p.m. – 6 p.m. Families that sign up for a dental screening get free admission to the Museum. To reserve your spot call 360.956.0818.

During the screenings, parents will learn about when children should have their first dental visit, ways to prevent early childhood cavities, when to expect changes from primary to permanent teeth, proper brushing and flossing techniques, and the importance of regular dental examinations.

“Early visits to the dentist for children are so very important.  It provides an easy introduction for children, helps to confirm no problems exist, and presents an opportunity to receive anticipatory guidance on how to prevent future dental problems,” said Dr. Scott Rowley from Small to Tall Pediatric Dentistry. “Small to Tall looks forward to sponsoring the free screenings at the Museum because it’s a great way to start kids and families off on the right path in a fun environment.”

Special guests and activities are featured all month and are free with admission. Kids get to be the dentist in an interactive dental office exhibit. Children can sew a tooth fairy pillow, make a monster mouth puppet, examine maritime teeth under the microscope, practice drilling like a moon snail, and get their photo taken with costumed superheroes Amazon of Olympia (Wonder Woman) Feb. 19, 12 p.m.– 2 p.m. and Amazon of Olympia and Batman of Seattle Feb. 26, 12 p.m. – 2 p.m.

The Hands On Children’s Museum has offered free dental screenings to its visitors for more than 20 years. Visit our website for a full schedule of screenings and activities.
