Westport Winery released its first varietal Grenache called Message In A Bottle on July 5. The winery has enjoyed blending this grape previously in its popular GSM (Grenache, Syrah, Mourvedre) named Nirvana. The grapes were harvested at Joe Hattrup’s Elephant Mountain Vineyard in the Rattlesnake Hills AVA near Zillah, Washington. Winemaker Mark Bosso said, “This is one of my favorite varietals. It has the potential to be Washington State’s answer to requests for Pinot Noir because of its earthy undertones and lighter color.”

The bottle features an original watercolor by Roberts’ talented family friend, Darrel Easter, who is the artist behind ten of the winery’s other labels.

Each of Westport’s wines benefits a local non-profit organization. A portion of the proceeds from Message In A Bottle benefits the West Coast Search Dogs of Washington.

There are outdoor sculptures by local artists commemorating each wine in the resort’s 15-acre display garden. The Message In A Bottle sculpture was designed by Abe Singer from Montesano. It is prominently featured adjacent to the winery’s entry sign. The gardens are free to enjoy. Dogs are welcome in the gardens while on leash. There are 60 sculptures and over 100 interpretive signs to guide guests through the resort.

Message In A Bottle is available to purchase on the website at www.WestportWinery.com, but it’s even more fun to visit the winery where visitors can taste this luscious wine daily from 11am to 6pm. Be sure to plan time in your visit to explore the International Mermaid Museum and dine in the award-winning Sea Glass Grill.
