Capital Lakefair is sad to announce that the 2021 festival is cancelled.

In meeting with our partners at the Washington State Department of Enterprise Services and the City of Olympia, it was determined that Lakefair is not going to be able to be held at Heritage Park and on Water Street in downtown Olympia this year. Lakefair organizers explored several other options of later dates and locations in Thurston County, but at the end of the day the reality is that we will not be able to hold Lakefair this year and look forward to working with our partners to focus on holding Lakefair next year.

“Lakefair is a beloved event in Olympia and we are saddened. We all are looking forward to moving past the COVID emergency and into the normalcy of celebrating community traditions like Lakefair,” the Department of Enterprise Services and City of Olympia said in a joint statement in response to the news. “Unfortunately, the scale of planning required by both the Department of Enterprise Services and the City of Olympia to support a safe and successful Lakefair at Capital Lake in July is just not possible. We look forward to supporting Lakefair in the future.”

In meeting with the Department of Enterprise Services, and the City of Olympia, we are encouraged by the potential for future financial support that can help Lakefair cover their on-going expenses and survive until next year. We will also pursue our annual sponsorships, donation support from the Community and other potential grants to ensure Lakefair is able to happen in 2022 and keep the tradition alive that began in 1957.
