The North Thurston Girls Tennis Team traveled to Capital High School Thursday, April 22, 2021 to challenge the Coug ladies, falling 4-1 on “Senior Night” for Capital. Both teams have now completed all matches for “Season Two” of the girls tennis season in 3A South Sound Conference play as there is no playoffs due to COVID-19.

Capital swept the varsity events with wins by Thea Deanon (6-0, 6-0 over Dani Johnson) and Hadley Manista (6-0, 6-1 over Kaisha Walker). North Thurston captured the Varsity Doubles first seed match with a close fought win by Michelle Nguyen and Nikki Krambs over Capital’s Moriah Holterman and Fiona Fitzpatrick (7-5, 7-6).

North Thurston Head Coach Tara Kleca was proud of her team and the season. “We have three seniors who have been great role models, for the 20 on our team this year,” stated Kleca. “Michelle Nguyen was undefeated on the season and we were just happy to be able to play this year as last season we had nine days of practice before the season was canceled.”

Capital’s second and third seed doubles teams also won with wins by Laura Kanjo/Kianna Peebles over Annie Tippets/Josie Fueston (1-6, 6-4, 7-6) and the CHS team of Tionna Tolefree and Megumi Miyashita over NT doubles partners Mina Lukomski and Grace Rowell (6-1, 6-1).

Capital High head coach Tom Alongi was pleased with the win to close out the season for the Cougs. “We had 24 girls turn out and it was a challenging season,” Alongi remarked. “The girls have had a lot of fun and have really improved. Capital’s Thea Deanon went undefeated on the season for Capital and was joined by six other seniors on the varsity to close out an undefeated record and league championship (9-0, 8-0 3A SSC) for the Lady Cougs.
