The amount of support in our community has been something truly remarkable to see. Watching community members reach out to those in need is humanizing and brings meaning to this period of time. Many of us have wondered how we can be of service to those who have served us so diligently in the past. There are many who have truly been of service to us for years: those who have lovingly prepared meals, packed grocery bags, poured drinks, created hopeful art, made the perfect lattes and offered a helping hand to us in millions of other ways as well.

Virtual tip jars are something you may have seen pop up online recently. They are fast becoming ways to donate to individuals who can’t work or are in need. These tend to be the same individuals we would already be tipping generously for their service if we could just sit in their establishment. Tip jars become a necessary branch to get those individuals through this time when we can’t be there in person to tip, though many of us still want to. Some of these sites are national and some of us may feel overwhelmed if there are too many places to extend our support. Olympia Virtual Tip Jar is trying to condense the needs of many into one place and connect it with the hope of many others to keep supporting. This is a hyperlocal Olympia based tip jar service with the goal of reaching as many individuals who find themselves in need including those in the service community and small business owners. Right now, we are collecting information to create a database full of local businesses, artists, servers, baristas and “non-essential” workers who need support. This Olympia based database will be able to continue even as workers return to their workplace, because, to paraphrase Governor Jay Inslee: The effects of this will be long lasting even after we are able to be together again. Right now you can add your information, such as your Paypal, Venmo or Gofundme, to the database if you are a displaced Olympia worker here. Please share this link with any and all all service industry folks, artists, gig workers, small business owners and any workers that were impacted by the recent pandemic who deserve a little support – encouraging them to add their info to the list. Tips have already been flowing to deserving community members and we are already feeling the love!

As for those of you looking for a away to support… click here to tip, donate and support those who have served others for so long. Just pick a name from the list and send them the tip you would normally provide during your regular night out via the link to the payment method provided! Thank you for continuing to show love and support! We love you Olympia! Join and stay tuned to our  Tip Jar Facebook group for more information and upcoming virtual fundraisers.
