Thurston County’s Sports Commission, a division of Experience Olympia & Beyond, presents the third annual Thurston County Sports Awards. Awards recognize local athletes and game-changers in our community:

  • Men’s and Women’s Sport Star of the Year (College).
  • Boy’s and Girl’s Sport Star of the Year (High School).
  • Contributor of the Year.
  • Senior Athlete of the Year.
  • Thurston County Sports Legend.
  • Sports Moment of the Year.

Community members can recognize local athletes by nominating them for one of eight awards honoring high school, college, recreational and senior athletes or coaches.

New this year, the Senior Athlete of the Year award seeks to recognize those 50 years and older who exemplify a commitment to health, wellness and physical fitness.

“The Olympia region has played host to the Washington State Senior Games for a number of years. We are proud to host this event and recognize senior athletes, including those who don’t participate in the games, for their athletic achievements,” said Shauna Stewart, CEO of the Olympia & Beyond Sports Commission.

Do you know of an amazing athlete, team, coach or community leaders that deserves recognition? Nominations are open until April 6, 2020, and can be submitted online at https://www.experienceolympia.com/members/member-events/sports-awards/

Winners will be announced at the 2020 Sports Awards from 5 p.m.- 7 p.m. on May 13 at South Puget Sound Community College. Attendees will hear from keynote speaker Donnie Marbut, long-time head baseball coach at Washington State University. Marbut currently works as a baseball analyst on the Pac-12 Network, owns a business in Thurston County and previously coached locally at Capital High School.
