“Wouldn’t it be fun to have a pickleball tournament?” What started as an off-handed comment from a supporter of The Mayday Foundation has quickly morphed into a full event, but with an interesting twist.

Mayday Pickleball Pandemonium, slated for Friday, May 29 from 6:00 a.m. – 9:00 p.m., is destined to be an evening of wild and crazy action. Organized as a traditional tournament, the event is open to all pickleball players, of any ability. Because, here’s the twist – you and your pair can buy advantages to help your team advance in the tournament. Perhaps you want to start out the game with a few points. Or, maybe you want to have a pickleball pro join your duo for the next game. While we are still building our list of advantages, we are certain there will be plenty of ways to propel your team to the top of the podium.

“We are very appreciative of our presenting sponsors, JT Painting and Rhino Linings of Olympia,” said executive director Amy Rowley. “TwinStar Credit Union has also pledged support for the event. The support of local businesses helps defray some of the costs of organizing the event, meaning more dollars go directly to support local families coping with cancer while raising kids at home.”

Pickleball Pandemonium will be held at Steamboat Tennis & Athletic Club, which boasts 4 pickleball courts, meaning 8 teams (or 16 people) will be engaged in pickleball at a time. The tournament games will be shortened to increase the time on the court for each pair and keep the games moving throughout the evening.

Pairs will be encouraged to buy and redeem tickets for game time advantages. Each advantage helps your team move further in the tournament, but also raises vital funds to support The Mayday Foundation’s mission.

“The support we have received from The Mayday Foundation has lifted a huge psychological and emotional weight off us during this very stressful period of time while my husband has radiation and surgery,” said the spouse of a cancer patient, raising two children in Olympia.

The Mayday Foundation invites you to pick a partner and prepare to play a chaotic tournament, where the best team may not be the one with the most skills. Raising funds while having a good time is the goal of our inaugural Pickleball Pandemonium. A limited number of tournament slots are open at $50 per pair. Register to play at The Mayday Foundation website.
