The South Puget Sound Community College women’s basketball team continued its push toward a playoff berth with a 71-55 victory over visiting Green River College at The Evergreen State College on February 8.

Kelilani Brown and Jasmine Griffin continued their stellar sophomore campaigns with Brown posting her third double-double over the last four games by scoring a game-high 25 points to go with 14 rebounds.

Griffin also registered a double-double with 20 points and 10 rebounds. She also handed out eight assists and had three steals in the win.

Angelica Francisco finished with 17 points and Hannah Gifford scored six points and pulled down eight rebounds for the Clippers (5-17 overall, 5-4 division).

South Puget Sound, which swept the season series with the Gators, led 21-10 after the first quarter and 36-20 at the half before Green River cut the deficit to six points with 3 1/2 minutes remaining in the contest. The Clippers were able to seal the game with back-to-back 3 pointers from Griffin and Francisco on their next two possessions.

After opening the season 0-14, the Clippers have gone 5-3 over their last eight games and currently sit with a 5-4 record in Northwest Athletic Conference West Division play. With five games remaining in the regular season, SPSCC is fourth in the division, which would place the team in the NWAC tournament.

SPSCC holds a one-game lead over Highline for the West Division’s final postseason berth. The Clippers will play Lower Columbia at home on February 12 and at Pierce on February 15 before hosting Highline on February 19.
