Rogers High School defeated the Olympia Boys Basketball team 55-41 in the 4A SPSL (South Puget Sound League) opener Thursday, December 5, 2019 in Puyallup.

Rogers senior guard Jace Barrett led the Rams with 21 points which included five three pointers on the evening. For the Bears, Kai Johnson had 20 points to lead Olympia and Jackson Grant finished with 11 points.

Rogers shot the ball well early scoring three pointers on their first four buckets. Olympia coach John Kiley praised Rogers for their purposeful and hard play. “It is a wakeup call for us,” said Kiley. “Credit to Rogers for doing a great job defensively. We kind of froze a bit tonight.”

Rogers led 16-9, 27-17 and 35-30 going into the fourth quarter. Olympia battled at times but were not able to take the lead. Bear turnovers, or non-fluid play and key three pointers from the Rams helped cinch their victory.

Olympia moves on to play at South Kitsap Saturday, December 7. The Bears then travel to Sumner before hosting their first home game against Battle Ground Saturday, December 14 at 7:00 p.m.

For Coach Kiley and the Bears this early loss will hopefully be used to learn lessons for the rest of the season. “It is a long season and this team has a lot of talent offensively but tonight it was in its own compartments and islands and we will need to work on moving the ball and being better connected,” stated Kiley.
