“Changing the Narrative of Education in Indian Country” will be the focus of the first lecture in the Evergreen Talks Speaker Series at the Lord Mansion near Washington State’s Capitol Campus.
The lecture on November 12, 6:30-8 p.m., will feature Tina Kuckkahn-Miller, J.D. and Vice-President of Indigenous Arts and Education and adjunct faculty for the Masters in Public Administration program, along with State Senator John McCoy (38th Dist. – Tulalip).
The second lecture will be given by Dr. Cali Ellis who will speak on “Life Experiences of International Leaders: Which Experiences Matter, and Why? Data from a comprehensive study of 2,500 world leaders since the 1870s.”
Dr. Ellis, who has been teaching in the Masters of Public Administration program since 2017, will speak on Wednesday, December 11, 6:30-8 p.m.
The lectures will take place at the historic Lord Mansion, an Olympia property in the Capitol neighborhood, whose stewardship was transferred by the Washington State Legislature to The Evergreen State College in 2018.
In addition to renting the home for local functions, the college is using it to host the lecture series, where Evergreen faculty share their research and knowledge with the community.
The Lord Mansion and adjacent Coach House are located at 211 21st Avenue SW in Olympia.

“Changing the Narrative of Education in Indian Country”, Tina Kuckkahn-Miller, J.D. (Ojibwe) and State Sen. John McCoy (Tulalip). Senator McCoy has a long history of supporting Evergreen’s work, including as a faculty member in the MPA Tribal Governance program and serving as co-chair of the Longhouse’s Fund Development Committee.
