Travelers who use the Marvin Road Northeast (State Route 510) overpass in Lacey will need to plan extra travel time for an upcoming around-the-clock total weekend closure.

All users of the roadway are encouraged to use alternate routes during the closure and add plenty of extra time to help avoid travel delays.

“We know this is an inconvenience for a lot of people in the Hawks Prairie area,” said Project Engineer Brian Whitehouse with the Washington State Department of Transportation. “The total closure helps keep this project moving forward and we appreciate everyone’s help and patience in advance.”

The total closure allows crews to rebuild the Marvin Road on-ramp to northbound Interstate 5. Rebuilding the ramp is a part of the overall effort to upgrade the existing overpass into a diverging diamond interchange.

Total weekend closure of Marvin Road I-5 overpass

  • 10 p.m. Friday, Sept. 27, until 5 a.m. Monday, Sept. 30
  • Marvin Road overpass at I-5 will close to all vehicles, pedestrians and bicyclists. There will be no northbound Marvin Road access to northbound I-5 during the closure.
  • Northbound I-5 exit to Marvin Road (exit 111) will close. Travelers will detour to Quinault Drive Northeast.
  • Southbound I-5 exit to Marvin Road and the Marvin Road on-ramp to southbound I-5 will remain open, however there will be no access across the overpass.

The weekend overpass closure is weather-dependent and could be rescheduled.
