The City of Lacey, North Thurston Public Schools (NTPS), and Lacey South Sound Chamber invite the community to a Compassion Reception on Tuesday, June 11 from 12″00 p.m .- 1:00 p.m. at the Lacey City Hall Council Chambers, 420 College St SE. The reception celebrates the achievement of reaching 100,000+ Compassionate Acts in our community. Interested parties can RSVP to PublicAffairs@ci.lacey.wa.us.

In 2015, the City of Lacey and NTPS partnered on a Compassionate Community Campaign to explore ways to recognize and expand compassion in our community. Since then, NTPS continues to promote compassionate acts and honors those who demonstrate compassion in their schools. In addition, each quarter the Lacey City Council presents a “Compassion is Contagious” award to two compassion-focused individuals, organizations, or businesses at a City Council meeting.

Shortly after the two groups came together, the Lacey South Sound Chamber joined the effort. In late 2017, the three organizations designated the new Lacey Food Bank as their first “Compassionate Community Project.”

In the fall of 2018, the partners decided to focus their efforts on tracking compassionate acts in our community, with a goal of 100,000 acts by June 2019. Our community reached the goal in late May. The Compassion Reception serves to celebrate this effort and the group will share their future plans for a public art project to commemorate the achievement.

For details about the reception, contact City of Lacey Public Affairs at PublicAffairs@ci.lacey.wa.us or (360) 491-3214. For more information about the Compassionate Community Project, visit nthurston.k12.wa.us/compassion.
