More than 450 of Washington State’s best high school golfers will converge in Thurston County this week for the Washington Interscholastic Activities Association (WIAA) Golf Championships. The two-day tournament starts Tuesday, May 21 at four local golf courses.

“The WIAA is excited to be hosting the State Golf Tournaments in the South Sound. The courses are outstanding venues for WIAA tournaments and the member schools are excited to experience what the area courses and community has to offer,” assistant executive director Andy Barnes said.

The Olympia & Beyond Sports Commission worked with area golf courses and WIAA officials to secure the golf championships for the next four years. Tumwater Valley Golf Club, The Golf Club At Hawks Prairie, Indian Summer Golf & Country Club and Olympia Country & Golf Club are the official host courses.

“These types of sports events generates visitor spending at our hotels, restaurants, shops and other attractions. The state golf championship will bring golfers and their families here in the off-season for the next four years to gear up their game. It’s a huge economic impact to the region,” Olympia & Beyond Sports Commission CEO Shauna Stewart said.

The Olympia & Beyond Sports Commission, a division of Experience Olympia & Beyond, helps drive sports events to the region through direct outreach and assisting event organizers in finding venues, hotels and services. The Olympia & Beyond Sports Commission works in partnership with local cities, schools and facilities to drive sports tourism to the region.
