It may be a guarantee that April showers bring May flowers, but it’s often sometime in May, not necessarily on the first day of May. If you want to be sure your special person has a bright bouquet on May 1, place an order for The Mayday Foundation’s second annual May Day basket fundraiser.

“We launched the May Day basket fundraiser last year to spread awareness about our new non-profit organization helping families coping with cancer,” says founder, Amy Rowley.  “It was so successful that we decided quickly to make it an annual event.”

The fundraiser offers you a chance to purchase a small bouquet to be delivered to someone in Thurston County on May Day. “All you do is click a few times to make your purchase and our volunteers will take care of the rest,” she says. “This year we have also added hanging air plants for those shoppers who wish to send something that will last longer.  We are also offering handwritten cards to accompany your bouquets. You tell us the message and a volunteer will write it in beautiful script.”

Orders placed by April 15 will ensure delivery on May Day. Volunteers lovingly put together a unique bouquet and deliver it to the Thurston County address of your choice on May 1.  “Last year, people sent bouquets to neighbors, coworkers, friends, family members, babysitters, and all kinds of folks around Thurston County,” adds Rowley.

The volunteer crew took on a variety of tasks to pull off this fundraiser last year.  “Adults and kids joined in this fundraiser last year. We had people mapping routes, arranging bouquets, stapling paper into cones, adding colorful ribbons and distributing bouquets to delivery drivers.  About ten people drove delivery routes last year, traveling all around Thurston County to bring joy to people’s doorsteps,” says Rowley.

Rowley adds that the fundraiser was an excellent way to get the word out about The Mayday Foundation’s mission to provide immediate, practical financial support to local families coping with a cancer diagnosis.  “We have helped 16 families since inception in January 2018.  We are sending rent checks to landlords, clearing up outstanding utility bills, distributing gas and grocery cards and doing our best to make life a little bit brighter for families coping with a cancer diagnosis,” she says.
