SPSCC is pleased to announce its students will create art in collaboration with visiting Native artist Joseph H. Seymour, Jr., ancestral name wahalatsu?, of the Squaxin Island and Pueblo of Acoma. Seymour will lead a multi-session workshop, culminating in an exhibition of the work in The Gallery, from April 29 to May 3. Students will gain experience in all aspects of the collaborative project, including planning, production, installation, and presentation.
Seymour began his artistic career by carving his first paddle for the 2003 Tribal Journey to Tulalip. In October 2005, he attended the Preston Singletary residence at the Longhouse at The Evergreen State College, an exciting experience that lead him to dedicate his life to creating art. He works with glass, photography, Salish wool weaving, wood, rawhide drums, and prints.
