A former two-time Continental Indoor Soccer League All-Star, Purtteman has a long history as a professional indoor player with strong ties to the Olympia community. John recently completed his 13th season leading The Evergreen State College men’s soccer program and is the acting Athletic Director for the Geoducks program.

“I am thrilled to add John to our club as he is bringing years of professional indoor soccer experience and a long history of winning to Matt (Herrera, Oly Town Head Coach) and the club,” said Artesians co-owner Tim Smith.

“One of our main objectives is to improve the development of our players and add value to our coaching staff,” added Leon Grinnell, Artesians Director of Soccer Operations. “ And John’s experience and background makes him uniquely qualified to provide the necessary direction to accomplish that goal.”

“John was the first person who came to mind to fill this valuable role,” Head Coach Matt Herrera added, “His experience is a welcome addition.”

“It is inspiring to see the work the Artesians have done in their short time in existence,” Purtteman shared, “I believe in the group behind this club and in the Olympia soccer community supporting the team. I would like to thank Tim, Leon, Matt, Brandon, and all of the folks working behind the scenes to make this a first-class club. I am happy and honored to help move the club forward in any way I can.”

Welcome to the family, John!

The Artesians wrap up the first half of the WISL season against the Oly-Pen Force in Bremerton on Saturday night. First kick at Oly-Pen Sports is at 7:30 p.m.
