Six different players scored for the Oly Town Artesians but the Snohomish Skyhawks blanked the Artesians in the fourth quarter and got a late power play goal from Devin Shull to take home a 7-6 at The Pavilion at Evergreen on Saturday night. Shull, John Troka and Tye Hastings each scored twice to lead the Skyhawks to their first win of the season.
Eli Boatright, a 16 year-old from Capital High School, scored his first goal to give the Artesians an early 1-0 lead. The two teams traded goals for the rest of the quarter. Mike Kehoe scored first for the Skyhawks, then Kyle Wiese answered for Oly, before Shull scored his first of the game at the 2:37 mark to tie it up at 2-2.
Oly exploded for a pair of goals just 19 seconds apart early in the second quarter. Chris Pugh poked the first home and then Christian Segovia gave the Artesians a 4-2 lead. But again, Snohomish answered and tied the game at 4-4 going into the half.
Snohomish took their first lead of the game just minutes into the second half when Troka scored his second goal of the game on a power play. But Oly Town were the one to answer this time, first on a goal by Collin Tate and then a power play goal by Mike Rancipher just one minute later.
But the fourth quarter was all Snohomish. Tye Hastings tied the game 6-6 and then Shull scored the game winner with 2:50 left at the exact same time an Oly Town penalty expired. The Artesians were smacked with a blue card 44 seconds left and couldn’t and tried to tie the game shorthanded, but the Skyhawks held them off and took the 7-6 victory.
Trevor Davoren made his first start in goal for the Skyhawks and picked up the win while Bradley Hanson made his first start of the season for the Artesians and was credited with an assist.
Oly Town now hits the road and heads to Bellingham to take on the Hammers next Saturday at 7:30 p.m. They will return home on Saturday, December 15 to face the Tacoma Stars Reserves. First kick at The Pavilion is set for 6:30 p.m.
