Rodeo fans will have to hang onto their hats as the Clash of the Cowboys rodeo brings a wild ride to town at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 27 at the Grays Harbor Fairgrounds. Sponsored by Bud Light, Clash of the Cowboys will have everyone cheering and rooting for riders as bull riding, bronc busting, and barrel racing competitions happen in a fast-moving and exciting night at the rodeo.

“It’s going to be a younger generation’s rodeo,” comments Rod Easton, fair and events supervisor at the Grays Harbor Fairgrounds. “There’s going to be a lot of pizzazz.”

The venue doors will be open at 5:00 p.m. and there is no charge for parking at the event. Presale tickets are available for purchase for only $12 from the Grays Harbor Fairgrounds office in Elma, Montesano Farm & Home in Montesano, or at the Olympia, Centralia, or Elma Les Schwab locations. Admission at the door will be $15, so why not snag a ticket in advance for this great evening out and then put the extra $3 towards the mouthwatering food at the rodeo?

This is the first time that the Elma fairgrounds will host Clash of the Cowboys and it is certain to be a riveting time with showcases of pyrotechnics and spotlights that will keep the sparks flying and the atmosphere energetic. When the rodeo concludes, people ages 21-years-old and over are welcome to stay and be entertained with a concert by the country music group, the Jessie Leigh Band. “I’m looking forward to hearing the Jessie Leigh Band,” comments Mike Bruner, Grays Harbor Fairgrounds and Tourism manager. “They put on a good show. It’s fun, it’s lively. It’s a good mix of modern country and classic country stuff.”

The Jessie Leigh Band is no stranger to the harbor and have played at the county fair and also previously at two Oktoberfest events. The musicians always bring those rustic country vibes along with the hype of rock-and-roll music. People won’t want to stop singing and dancing along as they perform. “That’s what goes best here is country,” Easton comments, adding that the past concerts by the Jessie Leigh Band have been spunky and entertaining to attend.

Bring an appetite to the rodeo and check out the traditional foods like chicken strips, burgers, hot dogs, and even themed food specials for the night. There will also be a beer garden and a separate family area in the grandstands. It’s the perfect evening to embrace an inner cowgirl or cowboy and get into the spirit of the rodeo.

In addition to the food options, there will be vendors present for people to shop and browse all kinds of country goods. There will be everything from hats, belts, belt buckles, sporting goods, T-shirts and more for rodeo goers to check out.

Elma hosts the Grays Harbor Mounted Posse Indoor Pro Rodeo every year and this is still set to take place in March. The Clash of the Cowboys Rodeo is going to be just as fun and is the chance for rodeo lovers to experience one done differently than a more standard rodeo. “We’re just being told that it’s a little bit more bells and whistles than your traditional rodeo,” Bruner comments. “It’s something a little bit different for a reason. We don’t want to duplicate what the Posse is doing in March, just wanted to try something new.”

Based out of Oregon, the Howell Rodeo Company will be putting on the Clash of the Cowboys. They have been putting on rodeos for more than 30 years and have a trademark of putting their unique twist on their events. The company has a goal to make each and every event an exciting and engaging time for attendees. “I’m really curious to see how big a difference there’s going to be between a regular rodeo and a Clash of the Cowboys rodeo,” Easton comments. “I’ve never seen one. It’s new, we don’t know what’s going to happen.”

Since Elma has not hosted Clash of the Cowboys before, there are hopes to draw in a sizeable crowd and possibly make the rodeo a regular occurrence each year. According to the Howell Rodeo Company, all of the slots have been filled and everyone is getting good and ready to participate at the event on October 27. “Ideally, it would be successful and well received and we would have it as an annual event,” Bruner comments.
