The Cities of Lacey and Olympia invite the community to the National Trails Day Celebration from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 2, 2018, to honor Senator Karen Fraser and enhance the Karen Fraser Woodland Trail (previously the Olympia and Lacey Woodland Trail). The event takes place at the bicycle roundabout on the Karen Fraser Woodland Trail near 3811 Pacific Avenue (where the Woodland Trail meets the Chehalis Western Trail).

The celebration begins with a dedication ceremony and a work party will follow. Tools, gloves, and light refreshments will be provided. All ages are welcome to attend this free event. Youth under age 14 must be accompanied by an adult and all youth under 18 years must have a signed Waiver and Medical Alert or parent’s signature on the sign-in roster at the project work site. You can pre-register by calling the City of Olympia at 360-753-8380.

Senator Karen Fraser has been a strong advocate for park projects and a long-time trailblazer in our community. Last fall, Olympia and Lacey City Councils voted to change the name of a portion of the Woodland Trail, a regional trail with sections in Olympia and Lacey, to the “Karen Fraser Woodland Trail” in honor of her service.

For more information on the National Trails Day Celebration, contact the City of Olympia at 360-753-8365 or City of Lacey at 360-491-0857.
