South Puget Sound Community College (SPSCC) awarded tenure to seven faculty members at the Board of Trustees meeting on March, 13, 2018.  Three of the faculty members are alumni of SPSCC.

In order to be awarded tenure at SPSCC, faculty members must satisfactorily perform required instructional and non-instructional work within their assigned area of discipline, such as course instruction, curriculum design, service work, and more over the course of three years.  During this time, their performance is under review by a Probationary Review Committee that reports to the Board of Trustees. At the end of three successful years, the Board can grant the award of tenure.

Liza Brenner

Art Professor

Liza Brenner teaches art history, drawing, painting, and other fine arts.  Recently, her work “A Legacy of Observation” was included in a juried exhibition at Edinboro University. Liza received her Bachelor of Fine Arts from Clarion University of Pennsylvania and her Master of Arts and Master of Fine Arts from Edinboro University of Pennsylvania.

Tim Madeley

Accounting Professor

Timothy (Tim) Madeley teaches accounting, business, and small business classes. He will be teaching business classes in SPSCC’s new Craft Brewing and Distilling program beginning in Fall Quarter 2018.  Tim received his Bachelor of Arts from University of Puget Sound and his Master of Arts from Antioch University.

Liza Rendon

Psychology Professor

Liza Rendon teaches psychology, diversity, and personality theories classes. She earned her Associate in Arts from South Puget Sound Community College, her Bachelor of Arts from The Evergreen State College, and her Master of Arts from Saint Martin’s University.

Melanie Shelton

Baking and Pastry Arts Professor

Melanie Shelton teaches baking and pastry arts classes. In 2017, she spent several weeks in Paris studying French methods of baking, confections, and more. Melanie earned her Associate in Technical Arts from South Puget Sound Community College; she is a former co-owner of The Bearded Lady Food Company in Olympia.

Amy Warren

Office Administration Professor

Amy Warren teaches business communication, office procedures, and classes focused on the Microsoft Office Suite. She earned her Associate in Arts from Green River College, her Bachelor of Science from University of Phoenix, and her Master in Education from Western Washington University.

Alex Wittmann

Automotive Professor

Alexander (Alex) Wittmann teaches fuels, ignition systems, steering, suspension, and brake systems classes. After earning his Automotive Technology Certificate in 2010, Alex entered the industry and opened his own automotive repair business. He also began teaching classes at SPSCC. Alex earned his Associate in Arts for South Puget Sound Community College.

Bin Zhang

Communication Studies Professor

Bin Zhang teaches interpersonal and intercultural communication, introduction to communication, small group communication, and Chinese classes.  He has been featured in several academic publications and, in 2016, he received an International Curriculum Mini Grant from NIEA. Bin earned his Bachelor of Arts and Master of Arts at Northeast Normal University and his Ph. D. from Southern Illinois University.
