There are 15 laptops now available to check out at the Tumwater Timberland Library, loaded with academic software, exclusively for Tumwater School District students to use for homework and school projects.

The new service is a partnership between the Tumwater School District (TSD), which bought and provides the laptops, and the Timberland Regional Library (TRL), which manages and check outs the equipment. The program began
this summer and will be evaluated at the end of June 2018.

Here’s how it works:

  • Students with TSD identification and a Timberland library card can check out a TSD laptop, connect to the free Wi-Fi and work on school projects.
  • Laptops must be used in the library only.
  • TSD technicians will provide tech support.
  • TSD may replace lost or damaged chromebooks depending on available inventory.

Here’s what it means:

For today’s students, computers and internet access are essential academic tools. Without them, learning and achievement may suffer and students can become discouraged. While TSD provides most students a laptop to use while at school (some students check them out to bring home), the challenge is not all students have the technology and access they need at home.

This new partnership can help students close technology gaps and navigate their way to success – with help from local educators and librarians.

The Tumwater Timberland Library is located at 7023 New Market St. For more information, contact the library at (360) 943-7790, or visit TRL.org.
